We commend both the Senate and House for taking steps to restrict future tax credits for wind and solar facilities in the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” These subsidies were established decades ago when it was argued that intermittent resources such as wind and solar power needed help to compete with other electricity resources, but for too long they have had a distorting impact on our energy markets and are no longer needed. Moreover, tax credits to subsidize wind and solar are harmful to the grid because they drive our nation’s most reliable sources of electricity – coal, natural gas and nuclear – to retire prematurely.
We look forward to President Trump signing these changes into law once the legislation reaches his desk.
