America’s Power Statement on Interior Department’s Emergency Permitting Procedures

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Interior today announced the implementation of emergency permitting procedures to help accelerate the development of domestic energy resources, including coal. In response, America’s Power President and CEO Michelle Bloodworth released the following statement:

“Today’s announcement is another critical and important step toward addressing our national energy emergency and leveraging all our domestic natural resources to strengthen energy security and national security.

“In concert with the Trump administration’s other actions to break down regulatory barriers, the Interior Department employing emergency permitting procedures will help stabilize our nation’s electricity grid and make the United States more competitive. The nation’s coal fleet and its supply chain are critical to maintaining a robust supply of electricity that can power American manufacturing and the future of our economy.

“For too long, government rules and regulations have prevented electricity providers from fully utilizing coal, one of our most abundant and dependable sources of power. We applaud the Trump administration for continuing to take meaningful actions toward addressing this challenge and making sure that coal can continue to play an essential role in maintaining a reliable electricity grid and a strong economy.”
