Washington, D.C. – In response to President Biden’s Executive Order to advance American artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, America’s Power President and CEO Michelle Bloodworth today issued the following statement:
“This eleventh-hour Executive Order is, at best, a drop in the bucket compared to the enormous demands for electricity caused by artificial intelligence (AI). There are simpler, better, and less expensive ways to meet this exploding demand for electricity. For example, the Biden Administration should not have pursued bad policies during the past four years to shut down coal-fired power plants even though they are an important source of dependable and affordable electricity for AI. Today’s announcement promotes wind and solar power that are not capable of meeting the 24/7 demand for electricity required by data centers.
“Already, one-third of the nation’s coal fleet has announced plans to retire by the end of this decade. We look forward to working with the incoming Trump Administration and new Congress to promote sound energy and environmental policies, reverse coal retirements, and maintain America’s position as a global leader in AI.”
