Washington, DC – Today, the Board of Directors of the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) approved the creation of a new “affiliate sector” that will provide MISO with input from the perspective of coal-fired electricity, one of the MISO region’s most important sources of electricity.
America’s Power issued the following statement by Michelle Bloodworth, President and CEO:
“MISO’s footprint includes the largest coal fleet in the nation. For that reason, we commend the Board of Directors, the Advisory Committee, and MISO staff for creating this new affiliate sector which will improve the stakeholder process and enhance the ability of MISO to carry out its mission. Giving coal-fired generation a seat at the table is long overdue and more than fair, given the coal fleet’s role in helping to maintain the reliability and resilience of the grid, producing affordable electricity, contributing to fuel diversity, and providing fuel security. We look forward to working with the Lignite Energy Council and other members of this new sector to provide a strong voice on behalf of the MISO coal fleet.”
