The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity congratulates Scott Pruitt on his confirmation by the Senate to become the new EPA Administrator.
There are a few basic things the nation needs from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. We are confident that EPA’s new Administrator Scott Pruitt will make sure the agency delivers them.
Ensure clean air and clean water. Mr. Pruitt’s record as Oklahoma Attorney General shows he is committed to protecting our air and water, having sued polluters on 13 occasions.
Ending the eight-year war against coal. Coal provides reliable and affordable baseload electricity for consumers in 48 states. Yet over the last eight years, we’ve seen the results of the previous administration’s overreach as coal-fired power plants have been forced to shut down because of EPA policies.
Strictly following the laws passed by the U.S. Congress. During his tenure as Oklahoma Attorney General, Scott Pruitt filed challenges to unlawful and unconstitutional EPA rules.
Instilling common sense and avoiding overreach. Administrator Pruitt and the Trump Administration are expected to reverse course on the $8 billion per year Clean Power Plan, which its supporters claim would help prevent climate change, even though it would reduce sea level rise by the thickness of two sheets of paper.
Establishing a real partnership with the states. Administrator Pruitt understands the importance of working hand-in-hand with the states, not against them – a clear departure from the dozens of EPA plans forced on the states over the last eight years.
Mr. Pruitt’s confirmation as EPA Administrator could not come at a more crucial time. We congratulate Mr. Pruitt and look forward to his leadership at EPA.
