Washington, D.C. – Today, 27 states challenged EPA’s Carbon Rule in the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit (dark blue in the map below). In response, America’s Power issued the following statement by Michelle Bloodworth, President and CEO:
“Having such a large number of states challenge EPA’s Clean Power Plan 2.0 demonstrates how bad the new rule is. In fact, the new rule is being challenged by even more states than the original Clean Power Plan which was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court. The new rule is an extreme and unlawful overreach that will force the premature closure of dependable coal-fired power plants that are needed to satisfy our exploding demand for electricity and to maintain the reliability of our electric grid. Electricity consumers should be thankful that so many states have taken on the responsibility to challenge this rule which has the same flaws as the original Clean Power Plan. We are optimistic the courts will overturn EPA’s new attempt to impose its dangerous preferences on the nation’s electricity supply.”
